Step right up, folks! Set your sights on a fabulous feast for the eyes! It’s Big Top Bizarro, in this big top the clowns can’t conceal their bitter souls, and the animals torment their “masters.” Opening night on Nov. 22 promises an ample supply of art, a sundry cast of characters, and a touch of mayhem.
Big Top Bizarro is the first solo exhibition by Brooklyn artist Mary Doyle, who combines the mediums of painting, drawing, and assemblage with her favorite subject matter: clowns, animals, and toys. The objects, colors, and imagery she uses in her work take on new meaning through juxtaposition and repetition, arousing conflicting feelings in the viewer of delight and anxiety, nostalgia and repulsion.
